OK...I'll go first.
Brian, a US Navy Rescue Swimmer Instructor with me in San Diego, participated in one of the first Eco-challenges. If my memory serves me right, I believe it was Utah 1995. He had a VHS tape containing an MTV video segment that featured his team. I watched the clip and was immediately intrigued. Brian and I both left the military and parted ways, but the video's impact stayed with me. Transitioning out of the military, finishing college, and having two children meant that adventure racing would have to wait.
Ten years past since I watched that video segment and I found myself at the start line of my first sprint adventure race; I figured I'd just get it out of my system...HA! Many races later, I don't see myself ever leaving the sport. I've joined the local orienteering club and have even directed and vetted O courses to hone my navigation skills. Adventure racing has taken over my life and I don't mind one bit!
We have experienced a lot as a racing team: a podium finish (2nd place), DNF, middle of the pack finish, bad blisters, arguments, tire blowouts, a rattlesnake attack, a sinking kayak in 50 degree water, you name it! Our team is always looking for a race in which we can compete, push our limits, learn to work together, and, most importantly, have a great time.
As for Brian, who knows? Brian, if you're reading this you better reply!
